What can your library do when 70% of the 4-5 year olds in your surrounding community are not Kindergarten ready by the start of school? Utilizing existing resources, Chandler Public Library launched Ready, Set, Kindergarten!, a 7-week program offered in English and Spanish, designed to give parents the skills they need to help their child succeed. This is a parent/child program, providing parents with a rare glimpse into how their child will interact in a classroom setting. With the success of RSK! we followed up with Ready, Set, Preschool! – a weekly school-readiness program at all four Chandler libraries. An LSTA grant, allowed us to expand Ready, Set, Kindergarten! throughout the library system and to the Chandler community. At this program, attendees will learn about the Ready, Set, Kindergarten! Curriculum, will receive first day activity take-a-ways and have the information needed to start their own library program.
